About The Event
Giant Mine Remediation Project:
The Giant Mine was a gold mine and major economic driver for Yellowknife and the Northwest Territories between 1948 and 2004. The mine is now abandoned, and the governments of Canada and the Northwest Territories are working together to remediate the site and manage the arsenic waste that was created during mining operations and stored underground.
This presentation will provide an overview of the Giant Mine Remediation Project. The project addresses long-term containment and management of arsenic waste, remediation of underground mine workings and surface areas, and management and treatment of site water.
Presenter: Laurie Stang, P.Eng. and Lead Geotechnical Engineer at WSP Canada in Saskatoon.
